CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / ConSynSer / – Apple has launched a redesigned MacBook Pro featuring its new PROLED XDR display and, for the first time on a Mac, Touch input. The company announced the laptop on Wednesday, October 28, in 14- and 16-inch sizes. It runs on Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and delivers up to 24 hours of battery life. Customers can pre-order now, and deliveries begin on Friday, November 6.

The PROLED XDR panel uses tandem OLED technology with innovations in every layer to keep brightness and grayscale uniform. Peak HDR and SDR brightness reaches 2,000 nits, and Apple puts the contrast ratio at 10,000,000:1. The screen supports both P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces and covers more than 80% of Rec. 2020. Refresh rates range from 10Hz to 120Hz. A nano-texture glass option cuts glare in bright conditions.
Apple chief hardware officer Johny Srouji described the laptop as a monumental step forward for the Mac. Srouji said the new display pairs tandem OLED with advanced algorithms to give pros the visual fidelity they have wanted. Each panel is factory calibrated, and new reference modes cover cinema, photography and print. DICOM modes allow nondiagnostic medical image review. Genlock support also helps with virtual production on film sets.
Touch input built into the display
Touch on the new MacBook Pro uses a sensor built into the display panel, which Apple says cuts latency. Familiar gestures such as swiping, pinching and double-tapping work across the system. Graphic designers can use the whole screen as a canvas, and app developers can test iOS and iPadOS apps by touch. macOS converts touches into clicks, so many existing apps work right away. A redesigned hinge keeps the screen steady while users tap.
Apple Creator Studio apps, including Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro, add touch controls such as an onscreen polyphonic keyboard and pinch-to-zoom editing. The Dynamic Island debuts on the Mac, hosting Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. macOS 27 brings the more capable Siri AI assistant, which can draw on personal context across apps. Users can ask Siri about what is on screen using a keyboard shortcut.
Lighter laptops start at $2,899
The redesign makes the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter. The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds and the 16-inch model 4 pounds, with screens growing to 14.2 and 16.3 inches. M5 Pro and M5 Max feature a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core for AI workloads. Configurations reach 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. The chips debuted in the previous MacBook Pro in March. Fast charging reaches 50% in 30 minutes.
Prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and $3,399 for the 16-inch version. M5 Max configurations begin at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple said the laptop contains 55% recycled content. It is available to pre-order in 30 countries and regions, including the United States.
